World Cup Turns to Technology

There’s a lot of pressure today with the FIFA World Cup kicking off in Brazil—and for the first time ever, referees will be assisted by technology designed to eliminate those pesky scoring controversies also known as “Ghost Goals.”

Rio De Janerio has its own personal IT technician —his name, Dirk Broichhausen. This German entrepreneur is the Chief Executive of GoalControl, a company to specifically make cinematic tracking systems to ensure that every goal scored has done so successfully—thus eliminating those ‘close calls’.

This new system will put an end to that. GoalControl installed 14 cameras in each stadium—triangulating the motion of the ball with maximum precision. With sensors on the goal line, GoalControl can instantly alert a referee via a simple vibration on their smart watch and an LED visual “GOAL” when the ball crosses the line.

When asked about possible technical issues that may arise due to Rio’s temperature, Broichhausen just smiled and said “Let’s not talk about technical questions, It will work perfect. Final word.”

We shall see.
